The Red River Valley Dental
Access Project was awarded a three-year grant from Dakota Medical Foundation in
2000 in the amount of $323,849 to implement the strategies identified by the
Red River Dental Access Committee who
had been working for two years previously to identify barriers to dental
care. Strategies focused on improved dental access for all residents
especially for low-income individuals and families in a 25 county area in
eastern

appropriate knowledge regarding proper oral hygiene practices; and 3) providing
dental screenings to assess children at high-risk for oral health
complications.
